Without exception, on every event, at least one or two people will argue that even though their kit or clothing does not comply with the official kit list - they should be exempt.
If I go for a run in the hills, I will wear fell running shoes (not walking boots), carry a bumbag (not rucksack), just have a tiny pertex water repellent jacket rather than full water proofs, and carry no emergency gear.
That's my choice, and any incident be upon my head only.
If I take part in any organised event - then I will ensure I comply with the kit lists and event rules.
Organisers rules are set for the following reasons:
To ensure each team has the same advantage/disadvantage
To ensure teams comply with event insurance requirements
To ensure all H&S guidelines are met
To ensure no negative publicity from any accidents or incidents
And, of course, to ensure the well being of all taking part....
If you feel the rules regarding kit and equipment are not acceptable - please do not enter the event..!
For commercial reasons, it's nice for us (Merseyventure) to be able to claim 100% of participants have lived through the challenge. Anything less could possibly affect our future contracts....
