Since the retirement of the original well known and loved Bongo Bus, we've been looking for a replacement vehicle especially suited to the needs of Three Peaks Challenge walkers.
Our 15/17 seat minibuses are very practicle, but a bit agricultural with very limited comfort, and 90% of the time only transporting 8 or 9 passengers. VOSA regulations class vehicles over 8 passengers (PSV Rules) or 8 or less passengers (Taxi Rules).
That extra one or two passengers makes a big difference to our logistics, speed limits, insurance, driver hours, tachographs, etc - so we've opted for an 8 passenger minicoach.
However, this is converted from a 16 passenger bus, and gives passengers a huge amount of extra space.
Our new 'Bongo Bus' minicoach offers walkers the following luxuries:
8x full leather, reclining passenger seats with arm rests
Individual reading lights and air conditioning
2x tables between seats
2x DVD / multimedia screens
Full overhead storage racks
12v and 240v power supplies for laptops, mobiles, etc.
2x skylights / sunroofs
Panoramic, dark tinted windows throughout
Huge boot space
Interior night heater / warm air blower
Full night lighting / dipped neon blue lighting
Fridge / drinks cooler
Twin rear self-leveling air suspension
2.8 litre turbo diesel engine
Unfortunately, due to the length of the minicoach, it can only visit Seathwaite - not Wasdale.
The cost of the vehicle, driver, parking charges and all fuel, for the weekend - collect Glasgow, drop north Wales, is £1200 - and at only £150 per passenger is excellent value for comfort...!
