| My company (First Title) have now registered a 3 Peaks team made up of staff from London, Bromley and Glasgow. I'm arranging the weekend and just need to clarify start times. What time do we begin climbing Ben Nevis, and what is the anticipated start times for climbing Scafell Pike ? |

Hi George,
This is undoubtably the busiest weekend of the year for Three Peaks Challenges, due to the short hours of darkness, and as such there will be a huge amount of other official events and non-registered events happening at the same time.
The exact start times will be adjusted to suit the events co-ordinator at the Glen Nevis Visitor Centre, and will only be made available a few weeks before the actual challenge itself - and may even change slightly on the day..!
Whilst we may bring forward start times from those shown below - we will not delay them further.
The times below are intended as a guide only...
All timings are based upon the following team progress:
Ben Nevis - 5 hours
Drive - 6 hours
Scafell Pike - 4 hours
Drive - 5 hours
Snowdon - 4 hours
TOTAL = 24 hours
Remember, this is a continuous timed challenge event - not a 24 hour race..! 24 hours is a great target, but weather conditions, traffic, navigation, mechanical problems, and accident/injuries will all add to your overall time, many being totally out of your control.
Just to complete the challenge is a great achievement.
Teams will need to register in Fort William to receive their information packs, start times, etc., before the event starts. The team leader and lead driver will also need to attend a safety and information briefing before the event - but details of this will be sent to you before the event.
The briefing will most probably be around midday.
At the moment, we are looking at the following schedule for the first team (teams will start at 5 minute intervals):
Sat 1400: Start Ben Nevis
Sat 1900: End Ben Nevis
Sun 0100: Start Scafell Pike
Sun 0500: End Scafell Pike
Sun 1000: Start Snowdon
Sun 1400: End Snowdon |

You should bear in mind that we expect a typical spread of some 6 hours at the finish from first to last team.
With the given start time of 1400 Saturday, we would expect teams to finish the challenge anywhere between 1200 & 1800 Sunday.
Even if you have a very fit and able team, there are lots of factors built into this challenge that can upset your plans.
In 2006 we had a team of 4 that set a new record on Ben Nevis of 3 hours 12 minutes, but spent over 8 hours lost on Scafell Pike, coming home last.
It's all in the planning and pacing.
